Chapter 1

Shopping

December 24th, 2007.

It had all started when I was reading my boring history book at home for school. Somewhere inbetween sentences my mind traveled as my eyes hypnotically continued reading. It was just then that my father walked in the door with his hands full of Christmas presents.

"Oh sh*t!!" I jumped out of my chair and darted out the door.

It was Christmas Eve and my parents had told me a week ago that it would be a 'good experience' to use my lawn-mowing money to buy my family Christmas gifts.

After an hour of running around I decided on getting my parents the same old, same old... clothes. To my Uncle and Aunts, chocolate-covered-cherries was the way to go. I mean, I was only 17... what do they expect? I walked out of the shop and started heading towards the malls exit, but something caught my eye. It was a magic shop, with a giant blue wizard hat above the door frame. Hmm that's strange, I thought. I'm almost certain i've never seen that building here before. Maybe they just recently added this in. There was something about it that just drew me in...other then the fact that i'd forgotten to get my two cousins a gift.

I walked in and there was a man with a black shirt and purple vest there to greet me.

"Welcome to Steve's Don't Stop 'Till You Drop, Magic Shop", smiling comically at me. That sure lightened the tension.

"Hi, I'm here to get my little cousins something for christmas? Got anything they might like?"

There was a sparkle in his eyes that made his overly gelled short black hair seem a little less frightning.

"A matter of fact, yes I do. I think you'll find it just the right thing. Here let me see if I can find it for you, hmm?"

I smiled at him as he turned around and walked into the back room. I could hear him fumble through a couple cardboard boxes before emerging from the dark backroom with a small one in his hand, holding it presentingly.

"They're going to love this!" He sure could draw my attention.

"This here is one of the most rarest and most prized items I have." his hand holding the lid down on the box.

"It can not only be used as many times as you like, but you can mold and shape it into anything you please. BUT BE CAREFUL THOUGH, it can be dangerous."

My eyes grew wide in anticipation, like a little boy waiting to receive a cookie from his mother.

"Wah-lah" He opened the box... and to my surpsie... there was nothing inside, except-- of course-- for some black leather lining used to create the insides of the small box.

"There's nothing inside." I stated.

"Oh I know that. What I wanted to give you cannot come in a box...for it is the words you speak that you will give to Sarah."

How did he know her name?

He continued, "I know your innermost desires, Peter. You were drawn here because there's something here that I have; something that you are destined to know... and use. Your tall stature only encouraging that dream to never come true." he leaned in, almost whispering to me now.

He knew everything about me... this had to be some trick... some of the guys at school must be up to this. I"ll show them!

"I-- I-- No! Thank you for showing me around. I gotta go though, bye!" I darted out of the black mini-building half expecting him to run out the door and scream "You're on Scare Tactics!" or something. I got in my car.

Sarah and David

December 25th, 2007. Christmas Party.

*ding dong*

I tapped my foot as I waited for my aunt Sone to answer the door... she always took forever with everything.

After a brief moment I heard footsteps on the other side of the door and then an unlocking sound.

"Oh Peter!!! How are you? Here let me get your jacket. Oh my god you're so big now! You kids just keep on growing, dont'cha?"

"Yea I think so, last I checked I was around 6'6", Auntie" I smiled.

"Oh for heavens sake, you're taking after your father. The old Jones genes, right? Hehe, come on in." She stepped aside with her warm smile, holding the door open for me.

She lived in a very big house out in the desert where the property wasn't quite so expensive as the rest of California. It was nice... very quiet though. Nothing like I was used to. I had grown up in northern LA and there was always something I could hear off in the distance.

I stepped inside and immediately felt the nice warm cozyness of her home touch my skin.

I greeted both my mother and father who had come early to help prepare dinner, and my uncle Tom was sitting on the couch staring at the fireplace. Noticing me approach,

"Oh hey there kido! How's everything goin'? Life treating you well?" giving me a slight nudge on the shoulder.

"Yea Uncle Tom, everythings great. Do you know where David and Sarah went off to?" wanting to get away from him. He always did creep me out.

"Last I heard they were screaming upstairs, I'd say their still up there." He went back to reading as I headed towards the staircase.

"Hey Peter!" David ran up and gave me a hug at my waist.

"Where's Sarah?"

David looked over at Sarah who was still watching TV from the couch.

"Hey Sarah, How are you?" I asked politely.

She looked over in surprise,

"Peter!!!!!!" she ran over to me and gave me a hug just like David just did.

Sarah was always a very pretty dirty blonde haired girl. I always thought she had a very cute button nose and her light-blue eyes really made her attractive. Deep down I knew that when she grows up she would be a gorgeous girl. She wasn't very tall though. Always the same height as her brother, David, but now that they were in 7th grade and David was apparently in the middle of his growth spurt it looked like he had a couple inches over her now. I looked her over once more, and noticed her beautiful small black dress. She filled it up quite nicely, and it even showed a hint of her blossoming cleavage. She was growing up.

"You look beautiful Sarah." I said, honestly.

"You really think so?" She twirled.

"He's only joking, Sarah! He's just being polite." David barked.

David has never been that mean to his sister before. . .it must be his growth spurt talking, I thought. Maybe now that he was finally taller than his twin sister it made him feel like he had a more powering voice in their sibling relationship.

Sarah frowned at the comment, "Were you joking, Petey?"

"Of course not Sarah, I really do think you're beautiful. You've grown so much since last year. Both of you have."

"See, I knew it David!" sticking her tongue out at her brother.

David turned towards her faking a punch and kick to her face to make her flinch; which it did, and then sat down next to her.

To change the subject I asked them a simple question,

"So uhhh, how old are you guys now? 11...12?"

"14!" they both explained proudly.

"We're both kind of short though for our age" Sarah explained.

"Well maybe you are, but I'm already 5'4"!"

"YOU ARE NOT! My eyes stare into your nose and I'm only 5'0", if that!"

"Yea well at least I don't try and hide my height by putting on PLATFORM SHOES!" David pointed down and ran down the stairs to dinner.

Sarah now with tears in her eyes slowly followed after him.

Reoccuring Events

December 24th, 2008 <--

Clothes... Check...

More Clothes... Check...

Chocolate covered Cherries... Checkity check check.

Magic Sho-- OH MY GOD!

There it was again, that same small black building I saw just a year ago.I thought they took it down because I couldn't spot it again ever since last Christmas Eve. I had this overwhelming feeling to go inside again. It felt almost like a magnetic pull, urging me to come in, but more..

Nonetheless I stepped inside cautiously...

"I you're back, Peter" The same sleek looking man emerged from the back room..

I never did tell him my name...

"You know, you should have gotten the set like I suggested. You would have had so much fun last year...too bad. How may I help you?"

What set? All he showed me was an empty box...

"No no no, the box was to emphasize what you were purchasing. Words, something that cannot come in a physical form."

I was starting to get a little creeped out and was ready to dart out that door like I had last year. How did he know what I was thinking?

"Because, Peter, I know everything about you. It is in your destiny to receive this."

To curious to think straight I asked,

"What are you talking about...Steve?" looking at his vests name tag.

He took a deep breath and began,

"Peter, what I'm talking about are special phrases... ancient words that were long forgotten. They were used to shape and form the universe as we know it. Their existence was erased from memory of fear that they would be used in the wrong way. I'm only giving you these words because someone you know is in need of this...and that person is your little cousin, Sarah."

I found a chair to sit down on before he continued.

"The words I am about to give you will allow you to change the very fabric of reality as you know it. Only the speaker of these phrases-- however-- will remember the changes that took place; making this a very dangerous thing to tinker with. Everyone will go on with their lives as if that's how it has always been. And yes, they will even have memories of the new altered world. But! Say the word incorrectly in any way shape or form and the result will be catastrophic. Now that you understand, are you still interested?" He was staring lifelessly at my two eyes, shifting back and forth between them..

Hesitantly I answered, "Yes."

He grabbed a piece paper on the counter and a pen and wrote down

Zoon Phrases:

zoon-muok

zoon-makai

He explained to me everything he knew about the phrases, but he lost me somewhere inbetween words. He used very large scientific vocabulary, a lot of which I haven't learned. It didn't seem like he could sense my confusion. Still, I kept it to myself. I figured as long as I understood how to pronounce the words I could still help Sarah with her delema.

I thanked Steve and walked out the door. Without a doubt in my mind I could feel his eyes staring into the back of my head as I walked out the mall doors.

The Explaination

December 25th, 2008. Christmas Party

After the usual family welcomes I went upstairs to greet Sarah and David.

They were both playing cards on the table infront of the couch.

"Oh hey Peter, funny that you got here right as I finished demolishing Sarah at poker...for the 5th time."

My expression immediately changed to concern as my eyes darted over to Sarah. She seemed completely unnerved by the comment; almost as if she was accustomed to such remarks...

"You ok Sarah? You seem...different"

"Yea, I'm fine. Just kind of depressed from that losing streak."

"How's that any different from any other day?" David rudely added in, laughing.

Sarah stood up to argue against him, easily letting her emotions get the best of her. I could tell that she wanted to tackle him so badly regardless of her small frame. She knew now though that the top of her head only came up to his shoulderblades now. She sat back down, submissively.

"What are you going to do about it, little miss sunshine? Gonna go cry to Mom like you did last time?" He gleamed down at her.

That was last straw for her. She pounced on top of her brother with full force throwing him off balance, but not nearly enough to get him to the ground. She started punching, scratching, and nailing him all of his arms and face. David just laughed and pushed her down very hard onto the floor.

It clicked for me just then. This was why I needed to save Sarah. I was given these to help my little cousin from getting hurt. Her twin brother was abusing her!

"Stop it! Stop it now, you two!" I yelled, but it did nothing.

I took a deep breathe and. . .

"Zoon-Muok!"

Suddenly everything around me seemed to take on a light blue haze, crystal-like. As if the world itself was frozen in place, but I was soon corrected when I realized everything was moving, just very very slowly.

Paintings on the walls slightly rose up, the couch slowly stretched beneath me, and David and Sarah were back playing cards again. All in the matter of a second. Everything seemed fine, but there was something that felt different... but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

"HAH! Full house! I win again, David, 3 to 2! Where's my 5 bucks?"

Rolling his eyes he handed her a five dollar bill from his pocket.

"You were SO lucky, I hope you know that."

"Yea, so?"

They both stood up.

"Soooooooo! That shouldn't have counted, full houses are so...over rated"

"HAH, over rated my ass. Quit making excuses"

They caught sight of me staring.

"What's wrong Petey?" Sarah asked politely.

I was too busy trying to pin point out what exactly was so different when they noticed my eyes wandering.

"Sa-Sarah."

"Yes?"

"Wha-what happened?!"

"what do you mean?"

"You're so...Tall!"

"Hahaha, what?! No I'm not! I'm only 5'6". Just like David. You know we've always been the same height, like, ever since we were little."

"No but I mean you grew! Like just now! Right infront of my face!"

Looking at me inquisitively "What are you trying to pull?"

"Nothing, I mean, I-- When-- All of a sudden everything started changing right after I..."

My voice faded as I realized what I had done.

"Are you alright Petey? You're acting really strange."

"I'm fine... but are you sure you don't remember anything?"

"Other then the fact that I finally beat David at poker? No"

Sara added, "Oh hey I wanted to ask you what was it you said just before the game, Zoon-Mouk or som---

I was thrown into the same hazy-blue abyss as earlier. Objects around me started changing into different shapes and colors, and some even disappeared all-together.

After the brief cyclone of distortions my eyes focused back in.

"...or something?" Sarah finished her sentence, and still standing infront of me. David was nowhere in sight.

Still confused from the ride, but not wanting anymore I answered,

"Just being silly! HAHA!" , putting on a fake smile after noticing I laughed at little too hard.

"Haha... so why did you ask about my height? That was kind of a strange. Especially after staring at me for so long."

Trying to formulate a good response I answered,

"I guess I just never took the time to look at the two of you closely enough to notice that you two were the same height"

She stared awkwardly at me,

"Petey, I just told you, I'm a little taller than my brother. We haven't been the same height since last year. He just never really kept up with me..." She smiled.

*Gulp*

David came walking in with soft drinks in his hands. Passing his sister along the way. She must have been an inch taller, not even.

It was then that I realized that it was I who was hallucinating through their eyes, not them.

I tried one final time to get through to them.

"You really don't remember being shorter then David do you?"

"What, like, when I was a baby?."

"No, But I mean--

"She's right Pete, I don't think i've ever been taller then her. Not even when we were toddlers."

I sighed in defeat, it was useless.

"Just nevermind, I was just...trying to play a game." thinking while I was speaking.

They stared at me like my head was cut off.

"What a bad game, haha." Sarah commented

David agreed before joining in with his sisters laughter.

"But ya, why did you say that word before our game?"

"It was nothing, just. . .thinking"

Chapter 2

A Whole New World

February 16th, 2009 Peter's Apartment

A couple months have passed since my last christmas family get-together, and for the most part everything seemed fine, until today when I felt the world around me shift beneath my feet...just like before.

I settled down into my kitchen chair after the blue haze had faded once more. The apartment I was currently living hadn't changed, luckily.

Now this shocked me, just like any other normal person would react after going through what I had just months before; but for the most part I didn't give it much thought. I just went on with my day like any other.

---------------------------------------

February 16th, 2009 The Twins House

(5 Minutes Earlier)

Sarah was sitting on her bed reading her February issue of Teen Magazine when her friend came walking in the room.

Sarah: Hey Karen! How are you?

Karen: I'm good girl, what's snappin'?

Sarah: Same old same old.

Karen: Coo coo, so what'd you want? When you called you acted like you'd just seen your dead cat or somethin'!

Sarah: Well...

Karen joined her on the pink bed and they leaned in closely.

whispering now,

Sarah: You know how I have to go to my stupid family christmas partys every year? Well the strangest thing happened...or at least I think happened with my cousin. You remember Peter?

Karen: Ya the tall Jap haha.

Sarah: Yea that's him! Well he started flipping all of a sudden after this poker game David and I were having. I'd just finished beating him 5-0, like usual, and I looked over and saw Peter staring at me.

Karen: Hah, he must've been pretty impressed. You're one good poker player.

Sarah: NO! I mean, staring at me like I grew a second head.

Karen: Ewwwww, hahaha your cousin has the hots for you Sarah! hahaha

Sarah threw her magazine at the wall. Obviously to indicate she was serious about this.

Sarah: *sigh* He asked about my height...why I was so tall.

Karen: Babe, you're only 5'8"; like me. Lots of girls are that height. You self concious or somethin' about it?

Sarah: No no no, that's not it... He started talking about the things around us changing--including me-- in the matter of a few seconds.

*Slight pause*

Sarah: He didn't remember me as the 5'8" Sarah you know me as. He said I had always been shorter than David and that I always got teased.

Karen: Your cousin's going whack, Sarah. You tell your parents about this?

Sarah: No, but Peter isn't the type of person to act like this. Not even as a joke. Something tells me he's telling the truth.

*another pause*

Sarah: There was 'one' thing he said though. It's supposedly what caused my growth and the other things to change.

Karen: What? Like a word?

Sarah: Yea, well he called it a 'phrase'.

Karen: Do you know it?

Sarah: Yea, but he told me to never speak it again.

Karen: Say it, see if anything happens. It's not like you've seen it do anything

Sarah: I dunno...

Karen: Just do it you, Tiny tits.

Sarah: Stop that! You know I hate that nickname.

Karen: Tiny tits Tiny tits Tiny tits...

----Sarah: Alright Alright! I'll do it!

Karen scooted to the back of the bed to give her room.

Sarah cleared her throat before beginning.

Sarah: Ok, here goes nothing!

"Zoon-Muok!"

Suddenly they were in a world where Sarah was slightly taller.

Karen: See? I told you, nothing. That solve your problem?

Sarah: Yea I guess so. . . thanks.

Karen: k, well, can I go now?

Sarah: Yea sure.

Karen: Alright cya latah gal.

Sarah: C-ya... Tiny tits.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

March 5th, 2009 Peter's Apartment.

Every couple of weeks i'd find myself in that same blue haze, with the same reoccuring dizzyness. The signs were there, but I haven't been seeing the effects. That haze was telling me that something is changing...

*ring ring*

"Hello?"

"Peter, it's your mother." her voice was tense.

"Mom, what's wrong? Is everything ok?"

"It's your cousin again, Sarah, she tried calling again. It's the fourth time today, Peter! P-P-please...just call her back this time. I won't be a part of this ANYMORE" she was crying heavily.

"Mom I--

she hung up.

That was strange, I thought. Something had gone terribly wrong. Sarah was using the phrases. I have to find out what was causing her to say them.

I picked up the phone and dialed Sarahs' number

"Hello." a unfamiliar young voice answered

I cleared my throat, unintentionally.

"H-Hi, is Sarah home?"

"Oh Petey! Hey, it's me! You're talkin' to her!"

Embarrassed, I answered with a weak: "oh..hi"

"S-so you wanted to talk t-to me?"

"Mhmmm, come over to my place and we can."

*click*

Why do people keep hanging up on me!
